A keyhole cardiac surgery is a surgery that is an alternative to open heart surgery. It is performed by operating the heart through the gaps in the rib cage, without splitting the breastbone. Most of these surgeries are conducted by robots these days.
WHY CHOOSE KEYHOLE CARDIAC SURGERY OVER CONVENTIONAL CARDIAC SURGERY?
While a conventional cardiac surgery requires an incision of 8-10 inches in the chest and dividing the ribs to reach the heart, a keyhole cardiac surgery requires only a small incision of 5-7 cm in length. We’ll also discuss the other benefits of this surgery in the upcoming weeks.
