Aortic Aneurysms

Aneurysms are secular dilations of the Aorta which can arise at various sites.

  • It is due to a weakness in the aortic valve

  • Ascending aorta

  • Aortic arch aneurysms

  • Thoracic aorta (descending)

  • Abdominal aorta

The treatment for aortic aneurysms is repair of the defect or replacement on the Aorta using an artificial graft (PTFE) or Dacron graft.

So the defective portion of the Aorta is replaced with an inter position graft.

Sometimes for an ascending aortic aneurysm which involves the root you may have to do a Bentall procedure.

Aneurysms repair is a complex procedure and sometimes it carries a higher mortality.
